About this event

  • 9 hours 30 minutes

In this year's Open Research Conference we are addressing the big challenge: culture change. It is not simply enough to facilitate open access and FAIR Data. We also need to embed best open research practice within our institutions, we need to make them standard practice. But how can we go about achieving this?

Join us for a discussion on these topics where the we will consider the role of next generation metrics, education, training and skills development in this process. We will also look to other contexts in which positive shifts in culture are actively taking place: EDI, Health and Wellbeing, and research integrity. What can we learn from these contexts, and how can we collaborate to make a more equitable and open research environment?

We will open with a plenary panel, incorporating speakers actively engaged in promoting positive culture change in research:

Malcolm MacLeod is the Personal Chair of Neurology and Translational Neuroscience and the Academic lead for Research Improvement and Research Integrity at the University of Edinburgh.

Rowena Lamb is the Head of Research Governance, Compliance & Risk at the University of Edinburgh's Research Office.

Katie Nicoll Baines is the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Manager for the Future Leaders Fellows Development Network.

Nick Wise, College Research Associate at the University of Cambridge has been a passionate advocate for research integrity - dubbed as the "'research fraudbuster' by the Times Higher Education.

Our panelists will be followed by three sessions, focusing on the themes of next-gen metrics, education and skills, and research culture - along with a rapid-fire lighting talk session. We will close with a catered reception and poster session, where there will be further opportunities to network and explore the themes of the day.

This event will be catered and the talks recorded.
